Some of this unique baking, offered only during the holidays, includes cookies so decadent, they take hours to create and are beautiful to behold. One crunch, though, and they are gone!
At Lakeport Dental, our staff is well aware of how easy it is to overindulge on holiday baking and sweet treats.
We thought this might be a good time for a reminder to all our patients that they are in charge of their overall health. There’s no better time to think about giving yourself the gift of a healthy mouth, with a smile that will light up a room.
If Santa visits your home, perhaps you could ask him to drop a new toothbrush into every stocking? The holidays are a great time to refresh everyone’s oral health routine – because if Santa says brush your teeth, we had better brush our teeth! (We don’t want to end up on the “naughty” list.)
You need not feel guilty if your day has included some holiday baking or a dessert: With a regular routine that includes a healthy lifestyle and oral health care during the day, sweet treats in moderation are not likely to disrupt your overall oral health.
A holiday break is a wonderful time to fit in some fun exercise – getting outside with children and playing in the snow, or going skating, or walking the dog to take in holiday light displays – all are great opportunities to fit in some cardiovascular activity without really noticing it. And I don’t know about you, but our kids love it when we suit up and head outside to build snowmen with them!
Invite other families to join you, and make it a neighbourhood party! If snow is scarce, try indoor skating at a local arena, or hiking on one of Niagara’s trails, or even a visit to a nearby conservation area.
Niagara has loads of outdoor experiences worth checking out. If you aren’t sure what’s out there, visit the websites for all 12 municipalities. Those, along with the websites for Niagara Region and the Niagara Parks Commission, should provide lots of ideas for getting out and having some winter holiday fun.
Santa would approve.
The staff at Lakeport Dental wish all our clients and their families a Happy Holidays!
We hope the new year brings all of you the gift of the presence of family and friends, with peaceful days and continued good health.
May the best of the season be yours!
